A Thanksgiving Mass for WYD 08 Pilgrims was held in Gizo on 30th July 2008.
Parents and other youth members gathered with the pilgrims and sang Liturgy Songs prepared by the World Youth Day pilgrims. The entrance Hymn “You will receive the Power” brought the WYD Spirit to the Diocese. During the Thanksgiving Mass, Fr. Vincent welcomed the pilgrims back home. In his Homily, Father Vincent emphasized happiness and how through peace we can be happy. He also challenged the pilgrims on how they will sustain their happiness. Father Vincent highlighted that we should first seek the Kingdom of God.
After Mass, a meal was shared and the youths took turns to reflect on their memories of Australia. Some of these reflections are below.
Reflections

Life always challenges me, especially spiritual events or celebrations. WYD 2008 was a real kick start for me. I know there will be temptations ahead but we need not gossip but to support each other - Arnold Arabatu (Moli)

It wasn’t the fact that everything was new to me but the purpose of attending WYD 08. I really enjoyed it and the Holy Spirit is guiding me to discover ignorance within my life - Iotepa ( Cookson/Wagina)

It was very entertaining for me; the city, the people from different colors and languages, but above all I was really inspired by the Stations of the Cross. It was an action which highlighted the event 2000 years ago but I really felt like I was present during that time - Ereta Vincent ( Arapa/Tua, Nila)
The Stations of the Cross really inspired me and reminded me how much Jesus went through pain, suffering and death for us. Each Station always reminds me and challenges me to surrender my life - Celestine Buleava (Sirovanga/Kavata)
Catechism based on problems and other teachings about Sacraments is crucial. Early Catechism may strengthen our faith as most of our members lost their faith and got involved in other churches because they lacked Catechism - May Tugea (Gizo Youth)
